One may recite a Davar Shebikedushah within four amos of waste, if it is covered over (even with a clear glass, or thin sheet of paper) and there is no odor. If it is covered but there is an odor, for example a baby wearing clothing that has a dirty diaper and it smells, there is a question in the Poskim how far one must distance oneself, either to the place where the odor can no longer be smelled or four amos farther away from the place where the odor can no longer be smelled. Therefore if one can, one should distance themselves four amos from where the odor can no longer be smelled, but if one can’t, one may rely on the more lenient opinion.
