The halacha is that one should not write   תורה שבעל פה. Rashi explains that the reason the Talmud was written is because otherwise it would be forgotten. According to some opinions this prohibition is only when writing to teach others, but for the person himself to remember what he learnt or to make it clearer, is permitted. Nowadays they permitted to write it in all cases of need.
